Bette Whitrock

January 20, 1941 — January 11, 2015

Bette L. (Burchardt) Whitrock, age 73 went to her eternal home in Heaven Sunday afternoon, January 11, 2015 at her home in Montello. "When life is done, and I in death, shall draw one final breath, You are the One whose face I'll see, my Blessed Savior who died for me." Bette was born in Beaver Dam on January 20, 1941, the daughter of Alex and Marian Burchardt and was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School in 1959. On June 4, 1960 she married her high school sweetheart, Karl L. Whitrock in Beaver Dam. After their marriage, they moved to Monroe, Menomonee Falls and later back to Beaver Dam where Bette was very active with the Beaver Dam Jaycees and Jaycettes for 10 years. In 1980, Karl and Bette bought Johnson's Boats & Motors in Montello where Bette was the bookkeeper until they sold the marina to their daughter, Dawn and son-in-law, Russ Rainey in 2006.

Bette was an active member of the Montello Chamber of Commerce for many years. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid, Alter Committee as well as a greeter at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church and active member of the Literacy Volunteers of Marquette County for 20 years. One of her favorite activities with the literacy program was the Tots to Teens Book Drive where many donated books were given to children of all ages. Most of all, Bette loved helping the 3rd Grade students at Forest Lane Elementary School increase their reading ability. Bette felt the hours spent helping children improve their reading skills was a rewarding part of her life.

Bette loved the saying which is hanging in her front room: "One hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had, nor what clothes I wore, but the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child." One of Bette's greatest joys in life were the hours she spent with her husband, Karl, children and grandchildren. Attending each and every one of their activities was what she truly loved. Be it basketball, track, football, wrestling, school plays and chorus programs; nothing could keep her away, and she could always be heard as she cheered with her whole heart. When Bette's teenage grandchildren would give her a big hug as they saw her in the halls at the Sr. High they made her feel very special. Bette is survived by her loving husband, Karl of 54 wonderful and loving years and her three children: Dawn (Russ) Rainey, Shannon (Vicki) Whitrock and Chara (Todd) Hall, all of Montello. She is the Proud Grandmother and Great Grandmother of her Grandchildren: Sarah (Fred) Jones, Amber (Matthias) Gimnick, Michael (Kim) Whitrock, Rebecca (Jake) Wolf, Casey Hall and Teagan Hall and Great Grandmother of: Ava Sophia, Kaden Michael, Rainey Marie, Rhett Russell, Zander Ray and newly acquired great grandson, Zander Jones. Bette is also survived by one brother, Chad (Pat) Burchardt of Beaver Dam as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Bette is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Karl and Arnita Whitrock.
