Betty Scharf

July 28, 1935 — June 12, 2024

Montello

Betty Jean Scharf, 88, of Montello (White Lake), passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah. Betty was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on July 28, 1935, to Harry and Burnette (Dahlum) Keever. She graduated from Waukesha High School in 1953.

She worked at Badger Meter, Hartland Plastics, the Colonial Inn in Delafield, Golden Gate Restaurant in Waukesha, and Olan Mills. She was bar manager of Waukesha Elks Club 400 and social director at East Terrace Apartments, Waukesha. She owned an A&W root beer stand, a laundromat, and her own realty company. As a single mother, Betty often worked multiple jobs at the same time to meet all the needs of her family. Betty would come home from work, take a 15-minute power nap in a chair, and then head out the door to a second job.

Betty was married to George Hart from 1957 to 1963.

She married Dave Scharf on June 15, 2001, in Waukesha, and they made their home at White Lake. They went to Hawaii on their honeymoon and spent several winters in Florida and Georgia.

Betty was a gifted artist and especially liked painting. With Dave, Betty enjoyed golfing, dining out, adding artistic touches to their home and yard, and gathering with friends.

When her grandchildren were young, Betty enjoyed road trips and camping with her son, Brett “Tony”, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She joined them at fairs, festivals, museums, and zoos. She enjoyed making her grandchildren Halloween costumes, doing art projects with them, creating Easter egg hunts, and making themed birthday cakes of her own design. Betty was skilled at organizing events large and small, and her goal was to add a “wow factor” to each party. When she lived on Army Lake in East Troy, she often invited her grandchildren over to swim.

Betty is survived by Dave, her husband of almost 23 years; son, Brett (Linda Ager) Hart of Jefferson, and five grandchildren: Bjorn Ager-Hart of Milwaukee; Brita Ager-Hart of Boulder, Colo; and Maren, Elsa, and Roald Ager-Hart of Jefferson. She is also survived by her brother, Gary (Sandi) Keever, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Claire (James) Babe; and her brother, Jerry (Patsy) Keever.

Honoring Betty’s wishes, she will be privately laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Pewaukee.

Crawford Funeral and Cremation Service of Montello and Oxford is honored to be serving the family. www.CrawfordFH.com
