Lester "Butch" Grant

October 6, 1942 — August 24, 2024

Oxford

Lester “Butch” Z. Grant Jr., age 81 of Oxford passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at his home. Butch was born on October 6, 1942 in Waukesha to Lester Sr. and Dorothy (Neale) Grant. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1960 and on December 8, 1969 he married Karen Richardson. Together they owned and operated Double G Farms outside of Oxford and raised three boys; Karen preceded Butch in death on May 12, 2018.

Butch farmed for many years running a dairy, crop and beef operation. He continued to expand the farming operation across Marquette County and was always known for helping out other farmers in times of need. Whether it be equipment, a strong hand or just a machinery part. After farming, Butch worked for Cardinal FG in Portage and retired in 2016. He was known for his hard work, the guy who would get it done right each and every time, his excellent safety record and willingness to always train and mentor others.

He was an avid deer hunter and was involved in Ducks Unlimited for years. His collection of Terry Redlin prints decorated his house and in part describes Butch’s life. He loved camping, boating and teaching everyone how to water ski. For years he sponsored men’s and women’s softball teams in Oxford. He rarely would miss a game and was always competitive in tournaments not only in Marquette County but around the state. Butch was extremely generous and was always willing to share and help anyone.

Butch is survived by three sons: Dustin Grant of Oxford, Shawn (Missy) Grant of Yukon, Oklahoma and Shannon Grant of Oxford. He is also survived by his wife, Linda Drew and stepson, Steven (Sarah) Rock; his grandchildren: Devon (Shanna) Grant, Nathan Grant, Savannah Grant, Nic Grant, Alexus Vaughn, Natalie Grant, Samuel Grant; great-grandchildren: Raelynn, Kendra, Teagan, Shyler, Raymond, Wrenly and Oliver. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Lentz of Oxford.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, wife, stepfather, Willard and sister, Kay.
