Carol Mary Gage, age 86 of Oxford passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Our House Assisted Living in Wisconsin Dells. Carol was born at home in Oxford to Francis “Buster” and Faye (Drinkwater) Sorenson on June 26, 1937. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1956 and met Carlton Gage while she was working at Rayovac in Madison; the two were united in marriage on August 3, 1957 at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Madison.
Upon returning back to Oxford, Carol was employed at the Oxford Convalescent Home, Crossroads Medical Group and ultimately retired from Dr. Stewart Taylor in Portage. She was a long-time and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oxford. Carol enjoyed walking on warm summer days rain or shine along with her special friend, Fran Guillet. She loved to read and it was often the highlight of her day along with spending time in her beautiful flower garden. Carol had a special bond with her grandchildren, often picking them up for a trip to Portage, the beach or their favorite restaurant. She had many special friends and was blessed to travel many places but the annual hunting trip to Wyoming was a highlight.
Carol is survived by her three sons: Curtis (Karen) of Pardeeville, Corey (Linda) of Oxford and Chris (Camela) of Black River Falls as well as six grandchildren: Amanda Gage, Megan (Grant) Padley, Jessica (Amelia Teeter) Gage, Janelle (James) Muschinski, Nicole Gage and Matthew (Sadie) Gage. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Elijah, Michael, Lily, Isaiah, Henry, Freddy and Aiden. Carol is further survived by her sister, Fran Johnson and other extended family members.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carlton, sister, Bette (J.R.) Rennert, brother-in-law, Robert Johnson and niece, Claudia Mullarkey.
A memorial service for Carol Gage will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Rev. Brenda Pulver will preside and inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred the First Presbyterian Church, 210 S. Miller Street, Oxford, WI 53952.
