Celeste Eve Scales , age 37 of Oxford passed away April 21, 2020 at home under hospice care after losing her battle with cancer. Celeste was born in Portage on January 3, 1983. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Elementary in Portage and Riverdale High School in Muscoda, graduating in 2001. Celeste was an extremely gifted artist; her work took her around the United States doing custom design and painting. She enjoyed being outdoors, construction projects, beading and creating anything she set her mind to do. Celeste was passionate about protecting sea turtles and manatees and was always willing to help someone in need. Most of all, she loved her family and crazy adventures. She was a great listener and always tried to guide people towards God in an effort to help them help themselves through faith in the Lord.
Celeste leaves behind her mother, Tonya Scales of Oxford, father LaMonte Johnston of Madison, two sons: James and Jesse Magyar and brother, Adam Scales of Wyocena, also two half-brothers and one half-sister. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Scales, uncle, Phil Scales, aunt, Victoria (Joe) Laser, other aunts and uncles as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Celeste is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Chester Scales and uncle, James Scales who was like a father to her.
Due to the current coronavirus situation, private family services with burial at the Oxford Village Cemetery will take place and a celebration of Celeste’s Life will be held at a later date. Please go to the funeral home’s website for up-to-date service information.
