Donald Kapke

Donald Leonard Kapke, age 71 of Oxford passed away Wednesday morning, December 10, 2014 with his loving wife by his side at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena after a courageous battle with ALS. Don was born on November 13, 1943 in Milwaukee to Leonard and Mildred (Rhode) Kapke. He graduated from Westfield High in 1962 and went on to serve his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army. On June 1, 1968 Don married the love of his life, Myrna Ripley at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westfield. Don was a hardworking man; he did custom farm work, construction as well as worked for Applied Power "Jack Plant" in Westfield for over twenty years. He loved the outdoors; hunting, watching and feeding the birds and spending time in his garden. Don was also artistically gifted; doing stitched plastic canvas and he also enjoyed watching Nascar Races and his beloved Green Bay Packers. Don was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford and will be remembered for his friendly nature and willingness to help others. He will be greatly missed. Don is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Myrna and their son, Todd. He is also survived by two sisters: Shirley Rosanske of Harrisville and Eileen Sohn of Westfield as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Don is further survived by his canine companion, Razzie. Don is preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service for Don will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Pastor Larry Sheppard will officiate and burial with full military honors by the Westfield Area Veterans will follow the service at Oakhill Cemetery, town of Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20005.
