Donald “Donnie” Dean Smith , age 66 of Reedsburg passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. Donnie was born in Fargo, North Dakota on December 30, 1954 to Donald G. and Doris (Peterson) Smith. He graduated from Montello High School in 1973 where he excelled in FFA and 4-H. Donnie volunteered to enter the US Air Force. Following his time in service, Donnie attended school in Nebraska to learn how to weld and later became a boilermaker. His true gift was working with horses and mules. Donnie was an IPRA rodeo judge and in his younger years fought bulls for the Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association. He was a longtime farrier as well as a founding member of the Wisconsin Pro Rodeo Association. Other hobbies that filled Donnie’s time included: riding motorcycle, hunting, fishing and spending time with family.
Donnie is survived by two children: Donald Jared (girlfriend, April) Smith and Stephanie Robin (partner, Brian) Smith both of Reedsburg, four grandchildren: Lani, Parker, Vienna and Reagan as well as his parents: Donald G. and Doris Smith of Dalton. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Smith of Dalton and brothers: Jeff of Dalton and Jody (Michelle) of Montello as well as many other extended family members.
A family memorial service for Donald D. Smith will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. Inurnment at the Greenwood Cemetery, Town of Buffalo and full military honors will follow the service. A Celebration of Donnie’s Life for friends will take place at a later date in the Wildcat Mountains.
