Doris Allen

August 31, 1935 — April 5, 2015

Doris M. Allen, age 79 of Oxford, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2015 in Libertyville, IL. Doris was born in Malden, Massachusetts to Albert and Tillie (Rabotnick) Leathe on August 31, 1935. She married Donald L. 'Red' Allen in Waukegan, IL on December 28, 1954 and together lived in many different countries around the world and places in the USA due to Donald's 22+ years of military service in the Army, prior to eventually settling in Oxford in 1998. Doris was never able to sit still; she was always busy whether it be caring for her family or one of her many pastimes such as: cooking and baking, crafting, camping, traveling, walking and even square dancing. She was voted "Top Military Wife of the Year" for her extraordinary volunteer efforts that included the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, the American Red Cross and many other Army related events, activities and charities. In addition, she was a mid-wife while her husband and family were stationed and living in Ethiopia for 3 years. She was also a member of the Oxford Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Though Doris was a woman of many talents, she loved to be around people and her greatest titles were "Mom" and "Nana". Known affectionately as "Honey" or "Auntie Pickles" by friends and relatives, she loved her family and friends very much and the time they spent together was priceless. She will especially miss her best friend of over 70 years, Ethel Haskell. Doris is survived by her husband, Donald of 60 years, 3 siblings: Barbara Forbes, Billerica, MA, Carol Freehoff, Malden, MA and Robert Leathe, Middleton, PA, and five children: Ronald (Gail) of Ellettsville, IN, Kathy (David) Craig of Grayslake, IL, Patrick (Debra) of Arena, WI, Donald (Teri) of Cambridge, MN and Donna (Tim) McAuliffe of Wisconsin Rapids, WI. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Michael. A memorial service will be held for Doris on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Oxford with Pastor Nestor Soriano officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the hour of service at the church. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, King.
