Dorothy Erna Schwochert , age 91 of Montello passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Dorothy was born in Portage on April 28, 1926 to Emil and Erna (Hutler) Fredrick. She married Elmer Schwochert on November 26, 1947 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Poynette and together they were blessed with 48 years together until Elmer’s passing in 1996.
Dorothy was avid quilter, seamstress and gardener and enjoyed being outside. She worked at the Buffalo Township Recycling Center for 22 years, club leader for the Buffalo Brownies 4-H for 22 years as well as a member of both the Marquette County Homemakers and Moundville Busy Bees. Dorothy was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society for many years. She was responsible for writing the Buffalo News for the local paper and the Visitation Record for the Montello Care Center. Dorothy’s family was very important to her and she cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even her great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by six children: Dale (Carol) Owen, Mary Hitchcock, Cecilia Cieszki, Pat (Dale) Cross, Dennis (Lynn) Schwochert and Brenda (Charles) Schuch as well as 22 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Earl Fredrick as well as other extended family members.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughters: Sharon and Rhonda and son, John as well as sons-in-law, Gerald Hitchcock and James Kelly, brother, Robert Fredrick and two great-grandchildren: Kyle and Marissa.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Schwochert will be held on Friday April 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, N117 State Road 22 (Just north of CM) town of Buffalo. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello from 4:00 until 6:30 PM at which time a rosary service will take place. Visitation will also be held on Friday at the church from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Father Marcin Kordel will celebrate the mass and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
