Duane Phillips

January 3, 1932 — December 30, 2013

Duane Virgil Phillips, age 81 of Montello and formerly of Deforest passed away Monday evening, December 30, 2013 surrounded by his family at his home after a lengthy illness. Duane was born in Monroe to Alva and Maudell (Grenwald) Phillips on January 3, 1932. He grew up in Browntown and went on to serve his country in during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. On November 29, 1957 he married Phyllis Andersen in Dubuque, Iowa and together lived and worked in Deforest for over 30 years until moving to Montello in the late 1990's.

Duane worked as a superintendent for several different construction companies installing pipelines and retired at age 53. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, fishing and going out to eat. Duane also was a member of American Legion Post 351 of Montello.

Duane leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Phyllis and six children: Douglas of Madison, Donald of Montello, Heidi Phillips of Columbus, Holly (Bob) Schulze of Sun Prairie, Andrew "Pete" (Melissa) of Pardeeville and Timothy (Erin) of Florida. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Lindsey, Mandy (Mike), Benjamin, Chad, Nichole, Evan, Emily, Cody, Christopher and Ian as well as six great-grandchildren: Hailey, Megan, Austin, Andrew, Isabella and Brooklyn. Duane is further survived by his sister, Dorothy and brothers: Gino, Robert and Kenneth as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Duane is preceded in death by his parents, son, Frederick, grandson, Duane "Duke" Phillips, sisters: Katherine and Florence and brothers: Harry and LeRoy.
