Edward Bong

Edward “Ed” F. Bong, age 87 of Montello passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Our House Assisted Living in Portage surrounded by family. Ed was born in Madison on March 12, 1939 to John and Anna (Dreassen) Bong. He grew up in Middleton and after high school he began his career in the construction industry. Ed worked for Carew Concrete for many years before retiring in 1996. He married Anna Brillhart on July 14, 1975 and together they resided near Harrisville and later Montello. Together they owned and operated the Nibble Nook in Montello for several years. Anna preceded Ed in death on January 9, 2003.

Ed had a great sense of humor and lit up the room wherever he went. He enjoyed working with his hand, building bird houses, playing cards, cheering on the Packers and always looked forward to the next trip to the casino. Most of all, Ed loved his family and cherished the time he got to spend with them.

Ed leaves behind five children: Rick Bong, Terri (David) Lowey, Debbie (Ousman) Wane, Mike Beckwith and Dan (Pam) Beckwith as well as five grandchildren: Emily (Cameron) Capps, Christina (Kevin) Eddy, Nicole Lowey, Michelle Lowey and Danielle Lowey. He is also survived by great-grandchildren: Anna, Joshua, Marley, Isaiah, Damian, Jada, Katie, Rose, Ender and Everly as well as great-great granddaughter, Luna. Ed is further survived by siblings: AnnaMae Koeppel, Roger (Cindy) Bong, MaryAnn (Gordon) Ring, Kenny (Linda) Bong and Harold “Butch” Bong as well as special cousin, Kathy (Bud) Hockerman.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons: John Bong and John Beckwith and two brothers: Robert Bong and Jerry Bong.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edward Bong will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the church. Father Savio Yerasani will preside and burial will follow the service at the Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Heartland Hospice, 2801 Crossroads Drive, Madison, WI 53718.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially nurses: Ashley, Jamie and Patti, director, Dawn Koeppel and the entire staff at Our House in Portage for all their wonderful care of Ed.
