Edward Buchholz

Edward Donald Buchholz , age 90, of Montello, passed away Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, in the home of his birth. Edward was born on the Julius and Emma Buchholz Family Farm in Shields Township of Marquette County to Adolph and Florence (Henke) on February 6th, 1932. He was baptized on February 28th, 1932 and confirmed in the knowledge of his Savior Jesus, on December 2nd, 1945 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Mecan Township, Marquette County.

Edward graduated from Montello High School in 1949. Upon turning 18 he enlisted in the US Navy in March of 1951. During his enlistment, he served as Machinist Engineer aboard two different ships with over 35 Pacific Ocean crossings, until his honorable discharge in February of 1955. On December 25th, 1956, Edward married Marlene Phyllis Eichmann at St John's Lutheran Parsonage in Harrisville.

Edward then began his farming career on the family farm which continued until 1995. After that he started his second career at Cardinal Glass in Portage until retiring in 2005.

Edward is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marlene, five children: Darrell (Deb), Glenn (Jackie), Warren (Jeanne), Patricia Fritsche, Theresa (Shawn) Campion as well as 32 grand and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph (Diane) Buchholz, sister, Jean (Delvin) Henke, and sister-in-law, Sandra Buchholz.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Orland, his son-in-law, Thomas Fritsche, his father and mother-in-law, William and Laura Eichmann.

Because Edward first met Marlene at a dance hall in Dakota, WI; they continued their love of dancing together throughout their marriage. They also liked to travel when possible, which included multiple ship cruises, with an Alaskan cruise being Edward's favorite.  Edward enjoyed telling historical real-life stories coupled with his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed socializing with his farmer friends and neighbors, but most of all, he enjoyed visits with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Edward will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church-Big Mecan.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the church.  Rev. Peter Zietlow will preside and interment with full military honors by American Legion Post #351 of Montello will take place in the parish cemetery.   A fellowship meal will follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, specifying your support of one or more of the following projects or organizations:  Emmanuel Outdoor Sign Upgrade, St John's Little Lambs or Christ Alone Lutheran Academy.
