Edward "Ed" John Fischer, age 89 of Grand Marsh and formerly of Antigo passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Monday evening, March 30, 2015 at Our House Senior Living in Wisconsin Dells. Ed was born in Elton, WI to Francis and Marie (Klies) Fischer on November 28, 1925. He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy.
Ed married Marilyn Powell on September 24, 1949 and together they were blessed with three children; she preceded him in death on June 8, 2009.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman, especially hunting and fishing. He proudly introduced his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the outdoors. Ed was a kind and gentle person who cared deeply for his family, his country and the well-being of others. In his later years, he spent countless hours waiting for the bus for his great-grandchildren to return from school always ready to spend time with them. Ed will be greatly missed. Ed is survived by his three daughters: Lynda (Gary) Bula of Grand Marsh, Sandra Fischer and Catherine Seis both of Antigo as well as six grandchildren: Jodi Holley, Tamra (Eric) Garz, Bryan (Lacey) Bula, Nathan (Michelle) Bula, Joseph (Dana) Seis, and Kori (Donnie) Helms. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren: Kortney, Kassie, Karly, Ayziah, Jaiden, Kera, Zoe, Grant, Bailey, Austin, Calvin, Gabe and Jessie. Ed is further survived by two brothers: Bob and Neil as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, great-granddaughter, Erica Marie Holley and seven siblings: Charlie (Helen), Bill (Norma), Alois (Rita), Jerome (Charlotte), Francis (Blanche), Gertrude (John) Ramlow and Dolores "Butch" (William) Barske as well as sisters-in-law: Eleanor, Maria and Norma. A funeral service for Ed will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Janet Ruark will preside and full military honors will follow the service. Private family inurnment will take place in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Brooks at a later date.
