Eleanor Rhode

Eleanor B. Rhode, age 96 of Montello passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the UW Hospital in Madison. Eleanor was born in Burr Oak, La Crosse County, WI on the family farm to Frank and Anne (Young) Herman on March 25, 1920. She married John Rhode at St. Rose Catholic Church on April 14, 1944 in Milwaukee and he preceded Eleanor in death on July 11, 1985. Eleanor was a devout member of the Catholic Faith and an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. She enjoyed traveling and going to the casino. Eleanor was also an avid fisherman and spent many days together with John in Northern Wisconsin enjoying each other's company and the beautiful outdoors. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Deb (Bob) Sprang of Milwaukee, great-granddaughter, Julianna Sprang and Gina Abbott. She is also survived by her niece, Donna Swartz of Packwaukee and other extended family members. Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Robert John Sprang and two sisters and one brother. She is also preceded in death by her favorite cat, Smokey Joe. A graveside prayer service led by Father Tim Renz will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, town of Montello. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 277 E. Montello Street, Montello 53949.
