Eunice Hutchings

Eunice S. Hutchings, age 103 of Montello passed away at her home on Sunday, June 28, 2026 surrounded by her family. Eunice was born at home in Stevens Point on December 4, 1922 to George and Mildred (Dake) Stelter. She was raised in Plover and attended a one-room school and later graduated from high school in Stevens Point. Eunice was united in marriage to Robert Hutchings on January 31, 1943 in Stevens Point and moved to Des Plaines, IL a short time later. They relocated to Arlington Heights, IL where they raised their three sons. In 1968, they found Montello and made it their forever home in 1980. Robert preceded Eunice in death in 2003.

Eunice was a woman of faith and active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello; she was instrumental in organizing the Prayer Garden and Thrift Store. She organized the Harvest Supper at Trinity for over 25 years. Eunice was also part of the group that started the food bank in Montello and organized the local Salvation Army Chapter. She loved to bake, can and garden; she was still hoeing her own garden at age 98. Always keeping her hands busy led her into many other hobbies including embroidery, quilting, crocheting and knitting. Throughout her life, she continued to write to her many pen pals and read her bible daily. Eunice will be remembered for her love of family and friends as well as her life of service to her church and community.

Eunice is survived by her three sons: Lonne of Inverness, IL, Edgar of Oconomowoc and Gene (Susan) of Montello as well as six grandchildren: Paul (Christine), Robert (Leah), Sharon (Ryan), Dawn (Dan), David (Tammy) and Tracy (David). She is also survived be great-grandchildren: Piper, Carter, Shelby, Alaina, Molly, Landon, Kaden, Daniel, Drake, Jackson, Preston, Audrey, Josephine and Miles.

Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Mildred (Harry) Antill and great-grandchildren: Drew and Robbie.

A memorial service for Eunice Hutchings will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Pastor Lisa Gilbert will preside and private family inurnment will take place at the Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 460, Montello, WI 53949.
