Evelyn Barton

Packwaukee

Evelyn Mary Barton, age 95 of Packwaukee passed away peacefully Saturday, August 12, 2023 at SSM St. Claire Hospital in Baraboo after suffering a recent stroke.  Evelyn was born on April 5, 1928 to Willard “Butch” and Sara (Pike) Krinkey.  She was raised in Packwaukee with her sister Annabel and on December 12, 1945 she married Ernest “Ernie” Barton and together they were blessed with three children.  Ernie preceded her in death on December 23, 2014. 

Evelyn was a loving mother and grandmother.  Her house was the place where everyone gathered and nobody left hungry. Evelyn loved children and babysat for many years.  She was a member of the Packwaukee Lioness Club and also worked on the Packwaukee Election Board. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Packwaukee for many years and attended Montello Tops with her sister-in-law and best friend, Nora.

Evelyn and her husband Ernie later moved to Portage, where they resided at the Heritage House Assisted Living. Here she enjoyed playing bingo and pokeno. She was able to make many new friends and connected with some old ones.  Evelyn looked forward to the Barton Family Reunion every year, which she was able to attend just prior to her stroke.  She enjoyed visiting with everyone; there were many laughs and great food.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Ronda (Jerry) Decker, son, Randy (Jeanie) and sister, Annabel Krueger.  She is also survived by grandchildren: Michael Lietz and Becky Trimble as well as great-grandchildren:  Devin Lietz, Cole Lietz, Josh Trimble and Jenna Trimble.  Evelyn is further survived by great-great-granddaughter, Paisley Lietz, sisters-in-law: Dorothy Barton and Lila Barton and other extended family members.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Ronald, brothers-in-law: Roy (Blanche), Russell (Edith), Harold “Pinky” (Helen), Robert, Lyle “Sarge” (Nora), Donald (Carol), Lawrence “Otts”, Walter Kenitz and Carroll Krueger as well as sister-in-law, Lola (Jerry) Winkler.

There will be a Celebration of Evelyn’s Life at the First Presbyterial Church of Packwaukee on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM.  Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  Private family Inurnment will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Packwaukee.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Claire Hospital, Baraboo. A special thank you to SSM Hospice staff, Nicole, Crystal, Jennifer and Sally. The staff and residence at Heritage House. All of our dear friends and family for their love and support. A special thank you to Pastor Brenda Pulver and Crawford Funeral Home.
