Frances Long

Frances C. Long, age 94 of Montello passed away peacefully, Wednesday evening, July 3, 2013 at the Montello Care Center. Frances was born on March 8, 1919 in Cleveland County, North Carolina to Aaron and Hattie (Wray) Cook. She attended school in Bellwood, NC and married James Towery in 1939 and together they raised four children: Dale Ray, James Harold, Roger Dean and Carolyn Ann. Frances later married R.C. Long in September of 1967 and he preceded her in death in February of 1985. Following R.C.'s death, she moved to Montello to be closer to family. Frances worked for Abbott Laboratories for 18 years making medical supplies. She enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking. Frances loved to treat her children and grandchildren to her southern recipes. Without a doubt, her family was very important to her and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Frances leaves behind three children: Dale Ray Towery of Montello, James Harold (Cindy) Towery of Lincolnton, NC and Roger Dean (Suzanne) Towery of Montello. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren as well as one brother, Aaron (Leona) Cook of Hickory, NC. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, daughter, Carolyn and an infant daughter, Martha. She is also preceded in death by seven siblings: Lloyd, Howard, Forest, Claude, Homer, Bertha and Irene. Private family graveside services will be held at the Montello Eastside Cemetery.
