Francis Winkler

Francis "Fran" Jerome Winkler, age 69 of Packwaukee passed away Thursday afternoon, October 9, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Madison. Fran was born in Portage on April 8, 1945 to Jerome and Lola (Barton) Winkler. He graduated from Montello in 1963 and went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. Fran became a highly accomplished professor of multiple disciplines; retiring from Fox Valley Technical College in 2001.

Fran enjoyed working in his garage, solving problems, building, engineering and fabricating. In his retirement, he wintered in Florida and summered in Packwaukee with his companion, Janice. Fran was fortunate to be able to spend time relaxing and enjoying nature and family. Fran is survived by his two children: Geoffrey of Appleton and Leslie (Scott) Miller of Nashville, TN, five grandchildren as well as his fiancAC.e, Janice Miller of Packwaukee. He is also survived by three siblings: Warren (Rose) of Florida, Bobbie (Beth) of Blue Mounds and Melody Ann Thomas of California. Fran is further survived by his "pops", Lee Burleton. Francis is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Val Jean as well as other extended family members. A memorial service for Francis will be held on Wednesday evening, October 15, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Brenda Pulver will lead the service and private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
