Montello

On June 18, 2023, Genevieve Louise Clark, age 86, of Montello, was called to rest by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She died at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s.  Genevieve was born on September 12, 1936, in Cedar Lake, MI to Lester and Bernice (Hanson) Smalley.  She graduated from Stanton High School, Stanton, MI, and went on to Emmanuel Missionary College, Berrien Springs, MI, where she attained an associate degree in Secretarial Science.  While there she met the love of her life, Wayne Clark.  They were united in marriage on July 4, 1958, at the home of Mr. & Mrs. J.E. Tompkins; together they were blessed with two daughters.

Genevieve was employed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years in various locations as she and Wayne moved around the country.  They retired in 1999 and moved to Oxford, and then Montello in 2004.  In her retirement years she worked as editor for the publication, A Key Encounter outreach ministry.  Genevieve was an avid reader and lifelong lover of music.  She was an active member of the Oxford Seventh-day Adventist Church, filling many roles in her life of service.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered for her radiant smile, pleasant personality, and generous spirit.

Genevieve is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Wayne, and two daughters: Karen (Clayton) Blair of Montello, and Kelly (Bradley) McClave of Orange County, CA, as well as two grandchildren:  Thomas Clark Patrick McClave and Ryland Grace McClave.  She is also survived by two siblings: Jay B. Smalley, and Lester William Smalley, as well as other extended family members.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her parents, brother Harlan Smalley, and other extended family members.
