Gerald Messner

Gerald Lee Messner, age 74, of Montello passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Montello Care Center. He was born on May 30th, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Carl and Irene (Patterson) Messner. Jerry married Eileen Marshall on February 13, 1954 and together they raised their six children in the Chicago area; throughout their lives they enjoyed coming to the Montello area, but it wasn't until the late 1990's that they permanently retired there. Jerry was a very hard working and caring person; he had many talents and was willing to help anyone. He and Eileen owned and operated the Lazy Inn Bed and Breakfast. Jerry was an active member of the Montello Rod and Gun Club, the Montello Lions Club and the founder of the Poplar Creek Muzzleloaders Club. He will always be known to many as Santa Clause which he joyfully played for over 40 years. Jerry leaves behind his wife of 55 years, six children: Glenn (Ruth) of Chicago, IL, Lee Ann (Jerry) Coyle of Montello, Bruce (Mary) of Hoffman Estates, IL, Robyn (Mark) Quartetti of Belvidere, IL, Jerry (Marlo) of Inverness, IL and Alan (Andrea) of Palatine, IL. Thirteen grandchildren: Kyle, Krystal, Bobby, Jessie, Nicki, Jayden, Myles, Jillian, Mason, Alexandrea, Arianna, Annalise, and A.J. Jerry is also survived by one brother Ronald (Martha) of Chicago, IL and two nephews Mark (Elizabeth) and Roger. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Che. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5th at the Crawford Funeral Home. A visitation will be held Friday, December 4th from 3:00-9:00 p.m. and also on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Robert Bruinooge will officiate and following the service Gerald will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Budda-Box Fight Against Cancer, P.O. Box 91, Westfield, WI 53949.
