Gordon Kuenn

August 21, 1926 — September 5, 2012

Gordon F. Kuenn, age 86 of Montello (formerly of Milwaukee) went to his heavenly home Wednesday morning, September 5, 2012 from the VA Hospital in Madison. Gordon was born on August 21, 1926 in Milwaukee to William and Florence (Steffens) Kuenn. He enlisted in the Marines at the age of 17 and served his country with 4th Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre; fighting battles in Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945 and married Audrey Bingaman on April 20, 1946. Gordon worked as a pressman for various newspapers in Milwaukee including Newspapers Inc. (Milwaukee Sentinel and Milwaukee Journal). In 1979, he moved to Princeton and worked at Kuenn's Korner with his family. Gordon later received an honorary degree from Rufus King High School in 2008. Gordon enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, gardening and landscaping, especially at Martha Hiestand's home. He also enjoyed traveling with Audrey, especially to the 4th Marine Division Reunions. Gordon is now with his Lord and Savior and his wife, Audrey who passed only days before him. Gordon leaves behind four children: James (Kathleen) of Milwaukee, Donald of Montello, Barbara Ann (Rev. Roy) Rose of Green Bay and Thomas (Donna) of Princeton. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Gordon is further survived by his sister, Beverly Schultz of Milwaukee and sister-in-law, Joan of Clearwater, FL as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, wife and 3 siblings: Robert, William and Shirley. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Burial with full military honors will take place at Valhalla Memorial Park in Milwaukee on Monday at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Little Lambs Learning Center, 313 E.
