Howard Scaggs

Howard "Howie" William Scaggs, age 66 of Montello passed away peacefully surrounded by his family early Wednesday morning, March 25, 2015 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Howard was born in Fort Sheridan, Illinois to Howard and Barbara (Wirth) Scaggs on June 27, 1948. Howard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army; serving two tours in Vietnam as a front-line medic. He married Judith Burk at St. James Episcopal Church in Milwaukee on March 29, 1969; from this union came a son, Alan and a daughter, Carol (Joe). Howard was the proud grandpa of Melissa, Nathan, Braden, and Tanner. Howard retired after over 38 years from the Chicago Northwestern/Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening as well as spending time with his family. Howard is survived by his loving wife of almost 46 years, Judy and their two children and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Dee) of Milwaukee, sisters: Patricia (Ron) Geurink of Gleason and Lynn (Gary) Burrow of Wautoma as well as four brothers-in-law: Carl, Paul, Jim (Pam), and Art. Howard is further survived by his step-father, Ted and step-siblings: Marla (Ed), JoAnne, Tom (Paulette), and Richard as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry, mother and father-in-law, sisters-in-law as well as aunts and uncles. A funeral service for Howard will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will be take place following the service at the Marion Cemetery, town of Marion, Waushara County. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
