Howard Zellmer

Howard W. Zellmer, age 75, of Montello passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, early Thursday morning, June 7, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Howard was born on the family farm in Shields Township, Marquette County on July 19, 1936 to Paul and Irene (Pischke) Zellmer. He was a 1954 graduate of Montello High School and on February 9, 1957 he married Alice Lowry at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello, where he was a lifelong member. Following high school, Howard was employed by Gisholt Machine and also Madison Kipp. In the mid 1960's Howard purchased land and began full time farming which began Sleepy Hollow Farm. In addition to farming, Howard served as County Chairman for many years as he was a member of the County Board for over 20 years. He also served as President of the Farm Bureau, an Alto Dairy Board member and chairman as well as a member of the Workforce Development Committee for the Madison Area Technical College. In his spare time, Howard enjoyed tractor pulling. Often he could be found at Hilltop Cafi�½ for breakfast and conversation. He and Alice enjoyed traveling together and spending time with their family. Howard leaves behind his wife, Alice of 55 years and six children: Patti Zellmer of Franklin, New York, Penny (Wade) Burns of St. Louis, MO, Andy (Sue) of Montello, Peggy (Tom) Wilson of Montello, Randy (Sarah) of Poynette and Eric (Hannah) of Montello. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as three siblings: Paul (Lois) Zellmer of Montello, Marlin (Barbara) Zellmer of Montello and Carol (Paul) Koester of Milwaukee. In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd (Delores) Zellmer. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and also on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Pete Zietlow will officiate and burial will follow at the Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Budda-Box Fight Against Cancer, P.O.
