James Smith

James "Smitty" Smith Sr., age 72 of Oxford passed away Friday afternoon, October 31, 2014 at his home. He was born in Chicago, IL on February 13, 1942 to Benjamin and Sylvia (Snarski) Smith. Smitty worked as a truck driver and retired from the Chicago Tribune after 30 years of faithful employment. He married Theresa "Terry" Ballog in Chicago in June of 1990 and together they moved to Oxford in the early 1990's. Smitty leaves behind his wife, Terry and two children: James Jr. of Hoffman Estates, IL and Cindy (Chris) Johnson of Burlington as well as two step-children: Robert (Connie) McCollum of Oxford and Debbie Fine of South Bend, IN. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his loving canine companions: Sweets, Maggie and Gypsy. Smitty is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Darlene. A visitation for James "Smitty" Smith will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home of Oxford. Private family services and inurnment will be held at a later date at the Oxford Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
