Montello

Joanna Catherine “Joan” Cardo (née Spanovich) of Montello and formerly of Milwaukee died Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage at the age of 84.

Joanna is survived by her stepchildren: Connie Stoner of Milwaukee and Ron (Ann) Cardo of Oshkosh.  She is also survived by four grandchildren: Michael (Faithann) Stoner, Susan Stoner, Brian (Ashley) Cardo and Laura Cardo, sister-in-law: Shirley Spanovich as well as four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Harold, her parents: Michael and Bertha (Kastelyns) Spanovich, son-in-law: Mike Stoner, brothers: Michael (Dorothy) Spanovich, Robert Spanovich and Joseph Spanovich and sisters: Stella Cordes, Katherine Spanovich and Julia (James) Gosselin.

Joanna was born June 2, 1937 in South Saint Paul, Minnesota to Michael and Bertha (Kastelyns) Spanovich. She was especially proud of earning her Master’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago Illinois.

Joanna primarily taught students in grades 4 through 6 before retiring and traveling all over the United States and then settling down in Montello with her husband, Harold.  Joanna was an active volunteer doing work for Marquette County and served on the board for the Marquette County Senior Dome.

The family would like to thank Joanna’s many friends at the Senior Dome and especially Judy, Peggy and Virgie for their long friendship and company. We would also like to thank the Marquette County Meals on Wheels for their great service and a special thank you to all those working in the ICU unit at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage Wisconsin for their compassion and dedicated service.

Joanna was cremated and no services will be held. Memorials preferred to the Marquette County Senior Center Senior Dome, P.O. Box 472, Montello, WI 53949 where she spent many hours enjoying the activities there.
