Judith "Judy" L. Walters, age 72 of Oxford passed away Sunday afternoon, April 24, 2016 at the UW Hospital in Madison surrounded by her family. Judy was born on May 23, 1943 to George and Florentina (Frey) Maier in Baraboo. She graduated from Portage High in 1962 and married Edmund Walters on January 16, 1965 at Mary's Catholic Church in Portage.
Judy's family owned and operated the Wagon Wheel in Portage where she worked for several years. She retired from Brakebush Brothers after for over 30 years of faithful employment. Judy enjoyed doing word searches, crocheting and playing cards and bingo. Some of Judy's fondest memories came from camping with family and friends and sitting around the campfire. She was a long time member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville. Judy leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Edmund and three children: Deb (Jim) Walters of Stoughton, Mike Walters and Kris Walters both of Oxford as well as her granddaughter, Melinda. She is also survived by her siblings: Donald (Patricia) Maier, Jerome (Shirley) Maier, Eileen (Jerome) Huber, Andrea Gavinski, George (Candi) Maier, Linda Wolsdorf, Mary (Henry) Gartner and Theresa (Richard) Coder. Judy is further survived by brothers-in-law: Wayne Walters, Jerome (Jackie) Walters, Ralph (Marilyn) Walters and sisters-in-law, Joy (Edward) Coon and Rhoda Walters as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Judy is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Thomas Maier and brothers-in-law: Donald Gavinski, Walter Wolsdorf and Dennis Walters as well as nephews: Jeff Huber and Edward "Bruce" Coon. A Mass of Christian Burial for Judith will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father Gary Krahenbuhl will preside and private family inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that will be established in Judy's name.
