June Rae "Jay" Lorraine Wohlgefahrt, age 91 of Oxford (formerly of Racine/Kenosha) passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, June 21, 2017. June Rae was born in West Allis on June 27, 1925 to Raymond and Viola (Heinz) Werner. After graduating from high school, she married Lewis Wohlgefahrt on May 25, 1946 and together they were blessed with six children. Lewis preceded June Rae in death on November 9, 2015.
June Rae and Lewis raised their family in Kenosha and upon retiring made a home out of their vacation cabin in Black River Falls. They made many memories with the family and especially grandchildren. June Rae loved to read, sew and especially dance. She was a longtime volunteer at several area libraries as well as being part of the USO. Most of all, June Rae will be remembered as a very giving person who was always willing to lend a hand and ask for nothing in return. She will be greatly missed. June Rae is survived by six children: June Rae Free of Oxford, Kathleen Peterson of Oxford, Lewis (Karen) Wohlgefahrt Jr. of Oxford, Gerry (Nancy) Wohlge of Colorado, Howard (Gwen) Wohlgefahrt of Racine and Sandy (Michael) Gauntt of Oxford. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. June Rae is further survived by her sister-in-law, LaVerne (Tom) Pinkowski of Waupaca and their sons as well as other extended family members. June Rae is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lewis, two sons- in- law: Roger Peterson and Alton Ray Free, two brothers: Richard and Raymond as well as her nephew, Tom Pinkowski Jr. A funeral service for June Rae will be held on what would have been her 92nd birthday, Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Chaplin Mike Amberg will officiate and burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, town of Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that is being established in June Rae's name.
