Karen Topel

Karen Ann Topel, age 66 of Montello passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at UW Hospital in Madison. Karen was born in Milwaukee to Edward and Dorothy (Roepke) Jacobs on April 23, 1949. She graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee in 1967. Karen married Neil Topel Sr. on October 12, 1968 and together they raised their family; they later divorced, but remained close. Karen enjoyed crocheting and playing games on her computer. She held several part-time jobs in the area as well as caring for her family and foster children. Karen also enjoyed the holidays and getting everyone together. Without a doubt, her favorite title was mom. She will be greatly missed.

Karen is survived by her husband and companion, Neil and two children: Neil Evan Topel Jr. (Tammy Fish) of Rock Springs and Tom (Liz) Topel of Trail, OR as well as six grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, nieces, nephews and friends. Karen is preceded in death by her parents and other family members. A celebration of life gathering for Karen will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home of Montello. There will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that is being established in Karen's name.
