Larry Hayes

Larry Dean Hayes, age 75 of Madison passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Avina Nursing Home in Sun Prairie. Larry was born on August 23, 1950 to William and Beulah (Lloyd) Hayes of Oxford and grew up on the family farm. He attended Oxford Grade School and graduated from Westfield High School. Larry attended UW Platteville for one year and during the late 60’s and early 70’s decided travel and adventure was his calling. He went from Oxford to California, Arizona, and states in between to New York and back home to Oxford. Larry worked at the shoe factory in Portage and then on to Madison where he lived and was employed by UW Madison as part of the maintenance and housekeeping department until he retired.

Larry loved his family and was only a few years older than his nieces and nephews. He kept in touch by sending greeting cards to all family members and always remembered their special occasions no matter the age, young, in-between and older.

Larry is survived by his sister, Lilas Elliott and brother, Lowell (Judy) Hayes both of Oxford as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was especially close to: Dean (Becky) Schultz, Wayne Schultz, Rita (Brian) Goodhue, Dina (Ed) Johnson, Jodi (Arnie McDonald) Elliott, Sherry Daniels, Renee (James) Cootz, Billie Sue (Dennis) Brush and Nicki Hayes.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lyle, sister, Irma Hayes and brother-in-law, Hollis Elliott as well as other relatives: Lynn Hayes, Linda Danielski, Jason Schultz, Alex Brush and Preston Roller.

A memorial service for Larry Hayes will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM at The First Presbyterian Church of Oxford. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. Pastor Brenda Pulver will preside and inurnment will follow at the Oxford Village Cemetery.
