Lorraine Barten

August 13, 1919 — October 17, 2009

Lorraine Evelyn (Elletson) Barten, age 90, of Montello peacefully joined other family and friends in heavenly peace on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Columbia Health Care in Wyocena. Lorraine was born on August 13, 1919 in Buffalo, MN to Ruben and Myrtle (Cunningham) Elletson. She married Leo Barten on September 7, 1940 and together they moved to Milwaukee and stayed there for over 50 years before retiring to the Montello area. Lorraine had a spirit of adventure; she loved to travel and experience new places and learn new things. She was employed at J.C. Penney for over 17 years as a key punch/data entry operator. In her spare time Lorraine enjoyed hobbies and interests like: gardening, searching for rocks, painting, reading, camping, rummaging, going to the casino, and in her later years she even joined a musical group that performed at local events. She will be deeply missed by her son David of Hartford, daughter Susann (William) Walkowiak of Montello. She is also survived by two sisters: Harriet (the late Charles) Mooney of Buffalo, MN and Darlene (the late Robert) Scharfschwerdt of Grand Rapids, MI. She is further survived by three grandchildren: Kellie, Chad, and Austin as well as many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Preceding Lorraine in death are her parents, husband, one brother Gerald, grandson Tyler Barten and other family members. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Father John Hedrick will officiate and burial will follow at Underhill Cemetery, Township of Packwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association at 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
