Margaret Giencke

January 20, 1927 — February 7, 2017

Margaret "Peggy" Sheila Giencke, age 90 of Montello passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Peggy was born in Carnarvon, North Wales, Great Britain on January 20, 1927 to Thomas and Frances (Challenor) Grundy. She served in the British Navy and during World War II she met John "Jack" Giencke whom she married on August 12, 1948 in St. Louis, MO; Jack preceded Peggy in death on December 9, 2016. Peggy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello where she enjoyed volunteering at the Thrift Store. Though she mainly stayed home to care for her family, she also was employed as a waitress and at Montello Products. Peggy and Jack enjoyed traveling together, gardening and spending time as a family. Peggy is survived by her son, John William Giencke of Montello and daughter-in-law, Jacinth Giencke of Florida and sister-in-law, Beatrice Calnin of Montello. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Larry Walch of Missouri as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy is preceded in death by her son, Robert Thomas Giencke and siblings: Betty (George) Wood, Elsie Walch and Pat Grundy as well as brother-in-law, Alvin Lange. She is also preceded in death by other extended family members. A memorial service for both John "Jack" and Margaret "Peggy" Giencke will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Pastor Jeff Radley will preside and burial for both and full military honors for Jack will follow the service at the Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that will be established in Jack and Peggy's name.
