Margaret L. Wilson, age 85 of Oxford passed away Friday afternoon, December 13, 2013 at UW Hospital in Madison. She was born at home in Oxford to Lawrence and Marie (Williams) Purdy on November 26, 1928. She attended Oxford Grade School and graduated from the Oxford High School. On April 16, 1955 she married Sherman Wilson at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Westfield; he preceded her in death on February 9, 2007. In addition to raising her six children, Margaret worked at various times for Oscar Meyer in Madison as well as the shoe factory and creamery in Portage. She regularly attended the Oxford Bible Church and enjoyed gardening as well as going for a bike ride. Margaret also loved to cook and will always be remembered for never letting anyone leave her house hungry.
Margaret is survived by her six children: Louis of Black River Falls, Lester (Anita) of Friendship, Lennard (Heather) of Berlin, John C. (Joni) of Westfield, Mary (Kurt) Spurgeon of Westfield and David (Cindy) of Montello. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well as three sisters: Velta (Phillip) Gohlke of Neshkoro, Dorothy (Cecil) Chapin of Viroqua and Marcia (special friend Lester) Hoeth of La Crosse. Margaret is further survived by other nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, John Purdy, nephew, Michael Purdy and brother-in-law, Don Hoeth. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oxford Bible Church. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m until the hour of service. Pastor Donald Wedel will preside and burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, town of Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Oxford Bible Church, 547 W.
