Mary Werdin

Mary M. (Atkinson) Werdin, age 74 of Columbus, formerly of Montello passed away peacefully Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Larson House in Columbus. Mary was born in Portage, WI on August 22, 1937 to Arden and Ruth (Campion) Atkinson. Mary grew up and attended school in Montello; she later lived in Poynette and for the last nine years in Columbus. She enjoyed traveling with her family, doing arts and crafts, singing and had a passion for reading. Even though she was confined to a wheelchair due to Multiple Sclerosis, she kept a positive attitude and had a great sense of humor. Mary always had a word of encouragement and a kind word for others. She will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by four children: Jeff (Bette) of Montello, Terri (Barry) Campbell of Madison, Dan (Barb) of Montello and David of Madison and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Atkinson of Onalaska as well as other relatives and numerous friends. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and one sister-in-law, Maria 'Tere' Atkinson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6:45 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Father Michael Richel will officiate and burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Montello. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to family.
