Mary Ann Hitchcock, age 75 of Palmyra (formerly of Montello) passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at her son’s home. Mary was born in Poynette on October 20, 1948 to Elmer and Dorothy (Fredrick) Schwochert. She graduated from Montello High School in 1966 and was united in marriage on February 20, 1971 to Gerald Hitchcock at St. John Lutheran Church in Montello. Together they moved to several places around Wisconsin ultimately settling in Fall River; Gerald preceded Mary in death on January 11, 2002.
Mary worked at Jack Winter’s Manufacturing in Columbus, Weyenberg’s Shoe Factory in Portage, Rhodes Bake ‘N Service in Columbus, as well as Jaxco glove factory in Rio before retiring in 2005 due to health concerns. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, reading, puzzles and watching draft horse shows at local county fairs. Mary’s pride and joy was her family and loved nothing more than watching her grandson and supporting him at his activities. She will be remembered for, desserts for the fair, yelling at Max (her very special grand-dog), an open ear to anyone who wanted to talk to her, along with her kindness and gentle nature, and who couldn’t forget her smile.
Mary is survived by her two children: Carrie (Douglas) Fischer and Aaron Hitchcock both of Palmyra as well as her very special grandson, Nicholas Fischer. She is also survived by her siblings: Dale Owen, Cecilia Cieszki, Pat (Dale) Cross, Dennis (Lynn) Schwochert, and Brenda (Charles) Schuch as well as two sisters-in-law: Carol Geske and Ginny (Steve) DePorter along with many nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, in-laws, sister, Sharon Zittlow and infant siblings: Rhonda and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Hitchcock will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Town of Buffalo, Marquette County. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello from 4:00 until 7:00 PM and again at the church on Friday one hour before the service. Father Sanctus Ibe will preside and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue, 829 Perkins Dr. Ste. 200 Mukwonago, WI 53149.
A special thank you goes to the staff at Prohealth Care Home Hospice; especially Dennis, Rory, and Jennifer for helping her family make her final days at home the best that they could be. We couldn’t have done this without all of your support. Also, to Melissa, with Christian Servants Home Care, who cared for Mary like she was family.
