It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Merle Eugene Kimball, age 56, on Friday, July 18, 2025. A beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Merle left this world far too soon due to post-surgical complications.
Born on December 1, 1968 in Baraboo, Wisconsin, Merle was a man who worked and played hard. He poured himself into a job that both fulfilled him and drove him a little crazy. His work ethic was unmatched, and his commitment to doing things right was admired by all who knew him.
When he wasn’t working, you could find Merle in the woods or by the water. Hunting, fishing, and being outdoors weren’t just hobbies—they were a way of life. He found peace in nature, especially when viewed from a tree stand. He had a lifelong love affair with deer hunting, and he had the gear and the stories to prove it.
Merle had a laugh that filled the room. He didn’t mince words, but he rarely spoke in anger. He loved deeply and lived fully. His presence will be missed more than words can say.
He leaves behind his wife, Samantha, who was the love of his life; and his proudest legacy—his sons, Nathan and Aaron (Lauren Ehlers). Merle is further survived by his mother, Karen Kimball; younger brothers, Jason, Jonathan, and Kenny; as well as many others who loved him dearly. Merle was preceded in death by his son, Larry Michael, and his father, Larry D. Kimball.
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, July 27th, from 12pm - 2pm at Crawford Funeral Home in Oxford, followed by time of sharing. Friends and family are invited to share stories, memories, and laughter over a meal at the Oxford VFW Hall from 3pm - 6pm—just the way Merle would have wanted.
