Nora Barton

Nora Barton, age 79 of Packwaukee passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, August 9, 2014 at Tivoli Nursing Home in Portage. Nora was born in Manton, Kentucky to James and Anna (Layne) Dove on April 30, 1935. She moved to Marquette, MI with her family where she met Lyle "Sarge" Barton; the two later married in Portage on September 27, 1952.
Nora and Sarge have lived in Packwaukee since 1962 where they raised their three children. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, but her greatest love was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nora was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Packwaukee as well as a member of the Montello TOPS club where she maintained COPS status for many years. Nora leaves behind her husband of almost 62 years, Lyle and three children: Sandy (Bruce) Brown of Packwaukee, Danny (Brenda) of Portage and Brenda (Al) Pulver of Oxford, eight grandchildren: Matthew (Melissa) Brown, Kitty (Dustin) Schnell, Brady (Sara) Brown, Shannon (Jessica) Barton, Desirae (Matt) Slotten, Lyle Barton, Shawna (Jason) Buenger and Brach (Cheryl) Pulver as well as one step-granddaughter, Kayla Waldner. She is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Nora is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: John (Beverly) and Kenneth and her sister, Bobbie Dean Breiwa. A funeral for Nora will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Packwaukee. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Carol Herman will officiate and burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, town of Packwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Packwaukee.
