Richard Becker

Richard Ralph Becker, age 83, of Montello died Monday morning, July 23, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 18th 1928 in Madison, the son of Harvey and Esther (Pufahl) Becker. Richard graduated from Middleton High School in 1946. He married his first love Linda (Williby) on August 13, 1952. Richard served in the United States Army in the 4th Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX from 1954 to 1956 and in the reserves until 1962. In the Army he learned to type and swap his cigarette rations for chocolate, Richard really loved chocolate. Together Linda and Richard operated dairy farms in Dane and Columbia counties before purchasing their own farm in Montello. Richard was active in the Wisconsin Dairy Assoc. and in promoting milk and the dairy industry as a member of Madison Milk, AMPI, Morning Glory and Foremost dairy Co-ops. Richard lost his wife Linda in June of 1995 to pancreatic cancer. In February 1997, Richard married Linda's best friend, Sandy Kilbride. Later in his life, Richard became active in local politics as an elected Board member of Montello Township. Richard enjoyed lively discussions on political opinions. Richard is survived by his second wife Sandra Kilbride-Becker of Montello, his sister Jeanette Wilson of McKinney, TX and his aunt Alys Daniels of Minneapolis, MN. He is also survived by his three sons: Lawrence (Kathy) Becker of Montello, Paul (Mary) Becker of Rio and David (Renee) Becker of Oshkosh as well as three daughters: Lynnette (Chris) Pozorski of Fort Wayne, IN, Jill Becker of Marshfield and Joy Becker of Marshfield. Richard is further survived by 12 grandchildren: Peter (Kathy) Becker of Birmingham, AL, Amy (Mike) Madison of Coon Rapids, MN, Jason (Daisy) Becker of Port Edwards, Jeff (Andrea) Becker of Rio, Lisa (Mike) Clark of Fort Benning, GA, Ryan (Lindsay) Becker of Pasco, WA , Ben (Corrie) Becker of Sun Prairie, Caleb (Kaitlyn) Pozorski of Fort Wayne, IN, Elyssa Pozorski of Fort Wayne, IN, Kirsten Pozorski of Fort Wayne, IN, Logan Becker, Bangor Submarine Base, Silverdale, WA, and Miranda Becker of Oshkosh as well as 10 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces and their children. He is preceded in death by his first wife Linda (Williby) Becker, his brother Eugene Becker, his sister-in-law Jan Becker and his brother-in-law Ed Wilson A Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Dawn Helton-Anishnaabeqwa will officiate and burial with full military honors by American Legion Post 351 of Montello will take place at the Montello City Cemetery.
