Robert Metcalf

Robert "Bob" Royal Metcalf, age 84 of Montello passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, October 26, 2015 at The Residences On Forest Lane in Montello. Bob was born on the family farm in the town of Packwaukee, Marquette County to Walter and Jessie (Hall) Metcalf. He graduated from Montello High School in 1949 and went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married MaryAnn Kasuboski in Berlin on May 30, 1953 and from that union they were blessed with four daughters; MaryAnn preceded Bob in death on April 5, 2004. Bob married Diane Wegenke on July 2, 2005 in Portage and together they resided in Montello. Bob worked for 32 for the Postal Service as both a letter carrier and retired as a Postmaster. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, cards and going dancing. Bob was an avid sportsman, especially hunting and fishing as well as cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. While living in Fairwater, his innovative spirit lead to building the Village Mart that is still in service today. Bob was musically gifted and loved to be around people. He will be remembered for his story-telling, his contagious smile and that twinkle in his eye. Bob will be greatly missed. Bob is survived by his wife, Diane and four daughters: Patricia (John) Rust of Stoughton, Maureen (Shawn) Connors of Mount Horeb, Kathleen (Robert III) Regez of Madison and Suzanne (Matt) Duffy of McFarland. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Bob is further survived by four step-children, twelve step-grandchildren and eleven step great-grandchildren as well as three siblings: Vincent of Montello, Eunice (Ken) Soda of Princeton and Judy (Jack) Steinhaus of Briggsville and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife, MaryAnn and four siblings: Blanche Metcalf, Mary Lou (Leo) Bisch, William (Delores) and Max (Katie). A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:45 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello and again at the church on Thursday from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Father Tim Renz will preside and following the traditional funeral mass, Robert will be cremated. Immediately following the mass, military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 351 of Montello. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that is being established in Bob's name. The family thanks the staff at The Residences On Forest Lane and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care and concern for Bob during his stay.
