Robert Walter Nelson, 67, of Packwaukee passed away at home on Monday, August 11, 2025. Robert was born in Madison, on August 7, 1957 to LaVern and Constance (Schneider) Nelson. He graduated from Madison East High School, Madison in 1975. He furthered his education in Computer Science. Robert married Dorothy Bisbee, from Worthington, MN; they had one daughter, Anna, and later divorced. He was employed by FEMA for many years as an IT Specialist, with his most challenging assignment spent serving in New Orleans during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He enjoyed traveling, spent a lifetime exploring the US and especially enjoyed his cruise to Hawaii. In retirement, Robert enjoyed fishing, as well as listening to music, perusing thrift stores, electronics, working in the yard and tinkering with all things mechanical.
Robert leaves behind his daughter, Anna (Brandon) Archer of Japan and grandson, James, as well as two sisters: Patricia (Michael) Nelson-Alt of Ironton and Carol Nelson of Baraboo. He is also survived by his close friends: Rik Berntsen of Maple Bluff and Dean Lofgren of Madison and extended family. Robert was preceded in death, by his parents.
Honoring Robert’s wishes, private services will be held at a later time.
