Sherman Stelter

Sherman 'Sherm' L. Stelter, age 66 of Montello passed away peacefully Thursday evening, March 28, 2013 surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer. Sherm was born at home on the family's Mecan Township farm on September 15, 1946 to Herman and Lillian (Stukofske) Stelter. He attended grade school and was confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and graduated from Montello High School in 1964. He went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1969. On February 1, 1975 he married Susan Peacock in Lake Geneva, WI. Sherm always was working with his hands-whether working construction, farming or rebuilding his 1913 Ford Model T truck. He was passionate about fixing motorcycles and taking camping trips with his Harley-Davidson and friend, Kent. Sherm will always be remembered for his sense of humor and caring spirit. He loved his family very much and will be missed by all who knew him. Sherm leaves behind his wife, Susan and two children: Daniel (Rebekah) of Milwaukee and Natalie (Tyler) Hoffmann of Ripon. He is also survived by one sister, Rosalie (Harold) Schmudlach of Montello as well as his mother and father-in-law, John and Betty Peacock of Lake Geneva. Sherm is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and many extended family members. Sherm is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beverly. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 313 E. Montello St., Montello with Pastor Pete Zietlow officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to either St. John's Ev.
