Thomas Furman

Thomas J. Furman, age 82, of Montello passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday morning, October 21, 2011 at his home. Tom was born in Buffalo Township, Marquette County on September 13, 1929 to John and Mary (Cadigan) Furman. He graduated from Montello High School in 1947. Following high school, Tom served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Marines 8th Tank Bn from 1951 to 1953. On November 9, 1963 Tom married Theresa Willegal at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello and together they had two daughters. Tom farmed the family homestead until purchasing the Fox River Feed Mill in 1976 and operated it until his semi-retirement in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion Post 351, VFW and also Knights of Columbus. Tom was also an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Montello. Tom is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Theresa and two daughters: Betty Furman of Omro and Karen Furman of Green Bay. He is also survived by two brothers: John and Slyvester 'Mark' and four sisters: Mary Catherine Furman, Teresa Gabriel, Agnes Abraham and Patricia (James) Leidy as well as sisters-in-law: Margaret Elbe and Lucille Fenlon and Cathy Willegal and brother-in-law, Joseph (Theresa) Willegal. Tom is further survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bernice (Howard) Nelson and brothers-in-law: Bernard Willegal, Anthony (Ileen) Willegal, Fay Gabriel, James Abraham, John 'Bob' Fenlon and Carl 'Ray' Elbe Sr. as well as sister-in-law, Carol Furman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday October, 26, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello with Father Michael Richel officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Private family burial with full military honors will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Montello. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. Crawford Funeral Home of Montello is serving the family. www.CrawfordFH.com
