Verna Roidt

Verna O. Roidt, age 81 of Montello passed away early Thursday morning, October 2, 2014 at the UW Hospital in Madison. Verna was born on June 7, 1933 in Galesburg, North Dakota to Henry and Selma (Stundahl) Smith. She graduated from high school in Halstad, MN and later moved to Wisconsin to live with her sister. Verna married Robert Roidt on October 29, 1960 in Dubuque, IA and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1995. Verna was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary and will be remembered for her wonderful cakes. She enjoyed dancing and most of all spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Verna was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dalton for over 60 years where she served as a member of the Ladies Aid. Verna leaves behind her three children: Craig (Dawn), Frank and Brenda (Jeff) Kendall all of Montello as well as four grandchildren: Keith, Kenneth, Robert and Nellie. She is also survived by six siblings: Phyllis, Thelma, Harold, Betty Lou, Donald (Doris) and Shirley as well as sister-in-law, Mary Smith. Verna is further survived by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Verna is preceded in death by her parents, husband and six siblings: Palmer, Grace, Sievert, Hans Peter, Dolores and Dwayne as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A funeral service for Verna will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Dalton. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor John Unnasch will officiate and burial will take place on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Montello City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Verna's name.
