Victor Sommerfeldt

April 15, 1930 — September 29, 2009

Victor E. Sommerfeldt, age 79, of Montello passed away Thursday, September 29, 2009 at the Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. He was born to Otto and Dora (Ponto) Sommerfeldt on April 15th 1930 in the Township of Mecan. Victor farmed his entire life; he also was an avid hunter and a passionate saw mill operator. Victor was an active member of the Princeton United Methodist Church where he served as an acolytist, and was a vital part of the Polcyn family farm for over 60 years. His life with the Polcyn family began at the young age of nine; when during the years of the great depression he pulled his little sled with all of his belongings up the half-mile long driveway to ask if he could stay. Mom 'Margie' replied 'Yes, we will take you in.' The Polcyn Farm has been his home from that day until his death. Along with our brother Jon and his wife Gertrude, he played a significant role in providing the building blocks on which Lone Oak Shooting Preserve was founded. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will remain there forever. Survivors include siblings: Dawn (David) Peterson of Wautoma, Jon (Gertrude) Polcyn and Jim Polcyn both of Montello as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends alike. Preceding Victor in death are his parents, brothers: Arthur 'Scubby' and Herbert, sisters: Viola and Elizabeth. Also preceding him in death are his loving step-parents: Jake and Margie Polcyn. Following Victor's wishes, he was cremated and a graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at St. John's Catholic Cemetery-Montello at 2:00 p.m. Father Michael Richel will officiate. He also will be remembered on All Saints Day during the regular Sunday service at the United Methodist Church of Princeton on November 1, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
