William Mulhern

William "Bill" Arthur Mulhern, age 90 of Montello passed away peacefully Friday evening, March 28, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living in Waunakee. Bill was born on March 7, 1924 to Arthur and Esther (Wolf) Mulhern in Mazomanie, WI. He attended Montello High School and moved to Waunakee where he met and later married Gladys Miller on October 28, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church in Waunakee. Together they raised their six children in the Madison area until retiring to their home on Buffalo Lake. Bill worked for Duquaine Blumer/Russ Darrow Car Dealership for 34 years as a refinisher and later owned and operated Bill's Auto Body Shop in Waunakee. Before retiring in 1989; he trained his son-in-law, Grant to take over his business. Bill was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello serving as an usher and member of the Holy Name Society. He was a Lions Club member and volunteered as a courier for the Wisconsin Eye Bank. Bill was an avid reader, story teller and also enjoyed music, hunting, fishing and golf. His family was very important to him and enjoyed spending time with them. Bill leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Gladys and six children: Kay Oren, Dorothy (Wes) Browne, Diane (Kent) LeFebvre, Marilyn (Kevin) Hill, Beth (Grant) Smith and Carol (Phil) Hutchison as well as sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by seven siblings: Kathleen, Virginia, John, James, Neal, Dody and Terry. Bill is further survived by his in-laws, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Billy, son-in-law, Paul Oren and siblings: Francis, Tom and Arlene. A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Father David Carrano will preside and burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, town of Montello. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
