Yvonne Manthey

Yvonne Marie Manthey, age 88 of Oxford, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.  Yvonne was born at home in Friesland to Arthur and Irma (Mullens) Wendt.  She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Portage. In 1953, she graduated from Portage High School and was united in marriage to Randall Manthey on August 20, 1954.  She followed Randall while he served in the Navy until they ultimately settled on a farm in rural Oxford/Briggsville in 1960.  Together they were blessed with four children.

Yvonne was hard-working, trustworthy and dependable.  She had a diverse work life. For more than thirty years she assisted her parents in operating Wendt’s Resort, in Briggsville. In addition to working alongside Randall on the farm, she was a skilled cook for institutions and numerous restaurants as well as an excellent baker, candy maker and even a long time rural electric meter reader. Over the years she served her community as town treasurer, women’s auxiliary treasurer and most recently assisted Randall at the town recycling center. Yvonne was artistically gifted and enjoyed:  needlework, ceramics woodworking and crafting.  She delighted in sharing a joke, a pun or a funny story and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Yvonne is survived by her husband of 68 years, Randall and four children:  Wendy (Bruce) Crandall of Florida, Paul of Oxford, Lisa (Rod) Jobs of La Crosse and Christine (Jeffrey) Chilton of Virginia as well as five grandchildren:  Tristan (Elyssa), Jetora, Alissa, Zachary and Dexter.  She is also survived by five great-grandchildren:  Desmond, Delaney, Brennen, Braxton and Aven as well as sister, Beverly Lohwater and other extended family members.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Karen Manthey, sister, Caroline (Robert) Kaschinske and brother-in-law, Arthur Lohwater.

A celebration of Yvonne’s life will be held on Saturday, May 6th, from 1:00 until 4:00 PM at American Legion Post #329, W8539 State Road 23, Briggsville, WI 53920.
