Liola Meta Crown, age 96 of Montello, fell asleep in the Lord Jesus, Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Liola was born in Fox Lake on July 13, 1925 to Alfred and Elsie (Rahn) Schultz. She attended a one-room rural school and Fox Lake High School and furthered her education at Columbia County Normal College and the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Liola married Harley Crown on March 31, 1945 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fox Lake; that was the same church she was baptized and confirmed in. Harley preceded Liola in death on July 14, 2019.
Liola taught rural school for 14 years and First Grade in Horicon for 24 years. In retirement, she and Harley relocated to Montello and became active members at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where served in the Ladies Aid and LWMS. She was the President of the Marquette County Retired Educators for many years, loved to garden and sew. She designed many quilts for relatives and friends but poor vision robbed her of her love for sewing. Liola loved taking care of her great-granddaughters and attending their sporting events.
