Richard Prouty

October 20, 1937 ~ July 24, 2022 (age 84)


Richard “Dick” Colby Prouty, age 84 of Montello passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.  Dick was born in Chicago on October 20, 1937 to Ira and Dorothy (Colby) Prouty.  He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1955 and furthered his education at DeVry University and Upper Iowa University earning a B.S. degree.  Dick married Barbara Celing in Norridge, IL on February 15, 1986.  Dick worked for many years as a pioneer in database administration in the IT industry.  He was an avid woodworker, crafting furniture in use in his and family members’ homes.  Dick enjoyed going fishing with his grandchildren and traveled extensively both domestically and internationally.  He will forever be connected with his cabin in Land O’Lakes, WI.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Barbara.  Dick is also survived by his first wife, Judy Maitland and their three children: Richard (Sarah) of Wilmette, IL, Gwendolyn (Steven) Morris of Mundelein, IL and Elizabeth (Stephen) Thompson of Chicago, IL.  He will be missed by six grandchildren: Ryan, Phoebe, Ben, Jillian, Sebastian and Anabel as well as his brother, Robert (Lana).

Dick is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan Backoff.
