Richard “Rick” Lyle Oakes, age 66 of Montello passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Rick was born in Portage on March 1, 1955 to Sidney and Rose (Kleist) Oakes. Rick graduated from Montello High School in 1973 and married Mary Alexander on June 24, 1978 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montello.
Rick was a faithful employee at Alliant Energy for 37 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending as much time as possible outdoors. Rick was also a sports fan, cheering on the Packers and Brewers. His unending dedication to his family was clear to all who knew him. Rick will be remembered for his quick wit, incredible strength, and kind, compassionate demeanor.
Rick leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Mary and two children: Nicole (Nathan) Sidwell of New Glarus and Alex of Montello as well as four grandchildren: Raelynn, Jaiden, Lucy and Jackson. He is also survived by two sisters: Linda Clark of Fond du Lac and Kathy (Charlie) Zigler of Wisconsin Dells as well as his mother-in-law, Susan Alexander of Montello. Rick is further survived by other extended family members and friends.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Rose, brother, Michael, nephew, Christopher Clark and father-in-law, Claire Alexander.
A memorial service for Richard “Rick” Oakes will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 4:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montello. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the hour of service. Pastor Kristen Lowe will preside and inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family for a memorial that will be established in Rick’s name.
